Morrissey Meadows (106 acres/43 hectares) is NCC’s newest conservation project, nestled in a valley-bottom within a much larger network of Crown and conservation lands in the Elk Valley.  Its location at the nexus of these lands, as well as its wetland, streamside and woodland habitats, make it a valuable addition to the conservation landscape in the Elk Valley—and the Elk River flows through it!  This conservation project secures a substantial stretch of the Elk River south of Fernie within an identified regional wildlife corridor essential to wide-ranging mammals such as grizzly bear, deer and elk.  The river is used by westslope cutthroat trout and bull trout, among other aquatic species.
